A total of eight flights were diverted from the Delhi airport on Monday due to bad weather, according to an official. The diversions occurred between 6 am and 9 am, with seven flights redirected to Jaipur in Rajasthan and one to Ahmedabad in Gujarat.
Meanwhile, Delhi Airport on Monday issued a passenger advisory due to thick fog affecting operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. The advisory stated that while landings and take-offs are continuing, flights not compliant with CAT III may be affected. Passengers were urged to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information, and any inconvenience caused was regretted.
To cope with the fog, Delhi Airport authorities activated the anti-fog landing system, technically known as the CAT-III Instrument Landing System (ILS). The CAT III system aids precision approach and landing in conditions of low runway visibility.
Flight operations at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad were also impacted by dense fog.
As the cold wave tightened its grip on North India, Delhi experienced an even colder morning with dense fog. The temperature on Monday morning was recorded at 9.4 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Visibility dropped to 125 meters in several parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).
