Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conducted a visit to Siachen, the world’s highest battlefield, on Monday to assess India’s military readiness in the region.

Singh’s trip to Siachen follows the recent commemoration by the Indian Army of its 40th year of deployment in this strategically vital area.

Accompanied by Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande, the defence minister undertook a comprehensive review of the security situation in the region, according to officials.
During his visit, Singh interacted with courageous Army personnel stationed at a forward post in Siachen, expressing admiration for their unwavering dedication and professionalism under extraordinarily challenging conditions.

“Visited a forward post in Siachen. Had a wonderful interaction with the brave Army personnel who are guarding our nation in extremely challenging conditions,” Singh shared on ‘X’.

Singh emphasized the extraordinary sacrifices made by soldiers in safeguarding the nation’s borders, particularly in extreme environments like the Siachen glacier, where they contend with frostbite and harsh winds.

In his address to the troops, Singh underscored the profound significance of Siachen as a symbol of India’s sovereignty and resilience. He likened Siachen to a capital of courage, grit, and determination, reflecting the indomitable spirit of India’s armed forces.

Singh paid homage to fallen heroes by laying a wreath at the Siachen War Memorial, commemorating those who made the supreme sacrifice in service to the country.
The Defence Minister hailed Operation Meghdoot, launched by the Indian Army on April 13, 1984, as a pivotal moment in India’s military history, marking the establishment of full control over the Siachen Glacier.

Singh also highlighted the historic significance of Siachen, stressing its enduring importance as a symbol of national pride and resilience.

The Indian Army’s continuous presence and vigilance in Siachen serve as a testament to its commitment to safeguarding India’s borders and ensuring national security.

The visit to Siachen by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reaffirms India’s steadfast resolve to protect its territorial integrity and honor the sacrifices of its valiant soldiers in defending the nation.
