On Saturday, a devastating blast hit Quetta Railway Station, killing at least sixteen people and injuring over 30, according to Quetta’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations, Mohammad Baloch.
Initial Investigation and Cause of the Blast
SSP Baloch reported, “The incident seems to be a suicide blast”; however, he cautioned that it was too early to confirm the exact cause. An investigation is now underway to determine the nature of the explosion. Baloch further shared that, according to surveillance footage, nearly 100 people were at the platform when the explosion occurred.
Blast Occurs on Station Platform
Meanwhile, Edhi Rescue Service head Zeeshan confirmed that the blast took place directly on the railway platform. The platform was bustling as a train was preparing to depart for Peshawar.
Immediate Response and On-Site Investigation
Responding swiftly, the Balochistan government sent police and security forces to the scene. Balochistan spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that the Bomb Disposal Squad was actively gathering evidence at the site. Additionally, officials have requested a comprehensive report to understand the full extent and cause of the incident.
Hospitals Declare Emergency
In response to the high number of casualties, hospitals in the area declared an emergency. Medical teams are now providing urgent care to the injured, who are receiving all necessary assistance.
