In the first few months of West Bengal Governor CK Ananda Bose’s appointment, his relations with the TMC government were so cordial that Opposition parties, including the BJP, were slightly upset. However, the relationship between Governor and the state government has become bitter on many accounts. Following the withdrawal of the sacking order of a jailed Tamil Nadu Minister by the state’s Governor, the ruling TMC has stepped up its “jehad” against Bose. The mouthpiece of TMC released a scathing article against the Governor, claiming that he was indulging in politics from Raj Bhavan. Recently, Governor Bose went to northern Bengal to oversee the panchayat election preparations to minimise violence. The TMC, however, charged the Governor and said that he was siding with the BJP and local Darjeeling hill parties that opposed TMC in the panchayat polls. Bose also gave a stern message to the administration that he would take appropriate action against the government if violence continues.
Gadkari praises Digvijay Singh in Pune function
Recently, former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijay Singh went to Pune to attend a book release, where Union Minister Nitin Gadkari was also present. In a speech, Gadkari praised Mr Singh, sparking speculation in political circles. Gadkari praised Diggi Raja for walking long distances at this age and that even he himself—although younger than Mr Singh—could not walk like him.
CPI(M) debates ideology, alliance with TMC
There was intense debate within the politburo of the CPI(M) party on whether or not to ally with the Congress party. CPI(M) in the past defined Congress as a representative of the bourgeois. Now the situation is changed and Congress has become a natural ally at the national level of the communists, despite being challengers in Kerala. One can notice distinct differences between the two state mouthpieces of the CPI(M). In Kerala, they are gunning Congress as their main adversary, but in Bengal, the party has praised Rahul Gandhi’s every political move. After the meeting of the Opposition parties in Patna, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury was seated with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the same table. This has sparked off huge political debate within top leadership on whether CPI(M) can join a national alliance if the TMC is present.
