The newly appointed chief coach of the Indian men’s hockey team, Craig Fulton, landed in India on Friday morning. The 48-year-old South African arrived in the national capital, where he interacted with Indian hockey officials.
He is about to fly to Bengaluru this evening, where the ongoing National Coaching Camp has been progressing at the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
The Indian men’s hockey team appointed him as the team’s chief coach in March 2023. Craig Fulton has vast experience in coaching, and he has achieved great success in his tenure as a coach.
He was associated with the Irish men’s national team and the reigning Olympic champions, Belgium.
He got his name and fame as the head coach of the Irish men’s team between 2014 and 2018, and during this period, the Irish side qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics. The historic feat of the team earned him the FIH coach of the year award in 2015.
He worked as an assistant coach for Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Belgium. He was also associated with the Belgian coaching staff when the team emerged as world champions in 2018, held in Bhubaneswar.
After his arrival in India, Fulton said, I am excited to be in India and ready to meet the players tomorrow. There will be lots of hockey matches coming up in the next few months. I am prepared to take the charge and start the proceedings.
However, the captain of the Indian team, Harmanpreet Singh, has been hoping that his presence in the team will bring enthusiasm ahead of the FIH Men’s Hockey Pro League.
