In an effort to contain the Covid flare-up only days before China’s ruling party gathering, Shanghai has closed schools, gyms, and bars. On October 16, the Communist Party of China will gather for its once every five years congress, during which China is expected to replace its senior leaders as President Xi Jinping solidifies his hold on power.

Covid in Shanghai has affected many spheres of life. The schools throughout Shanghai have suspended physical classes to avoid infection growth. At least fie districts in Shanghai have closed entertainment venues including bars, gyms, and cinemas to curb the transmission.

In order to stop transmission, at least five districts in Shanghai have shut down their theatres, pubs, and gyms.

With 25 million people confined to their houses, Shanghai might go into structural lockdown like it did previously.
Shanghai performances have been postponed in order to comply with the Covid control regulations, along with the closure of a few other sites.

The most recent shutdown in Shanghai lasted for two months as locals had trouble getting food and medical attention.

38 additional infections, all of which were discovered in Shanghai’s quarantine system, have been reported.
