Covid cases drop as India crosses 66L mark, recovery rate stands at 84.7%

India reported a sharp drop in new Covid-19 cases recorded in the last 24 hours, with the Health Ministry data shows 61,267 fresh cases of coronavirus. With this, the total Covid cases in India have crossed 66.85 lakh with total deaths at 1,03,569, including 884 in 24 hours. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have reported the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Yet, India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 84.7 percent.

 As per the data, India now has 9,19,023 active Covid-19 cases and more than 56.6 lakh recoveries with 75,787 more people having recovered from disease in the last 24 hours. 

Meanwhile, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala and Veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora have tested positive for Covid-19. Vora has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital.

 Maharashtra recorded 10,244 new cases in 24 hours, the tally rose to 14,53,653. The state also saw the recovery of 12,982 patients, taking the cumulative count of recoveries to 11.62 lakh. The recovery rate in the state is80 per cent Gujarat reports 1,335 new Covid cases & 10 deaths in 24 hours. Total cases in the state rise to 1,45,362, including 1,25,243 discharges and 3,512 deaths. Number of active cases now at 16,597.

 National capital recorded 39 Covid fatalities in 24 hours pushing the toll to 5,581, while 2,676 fresh cases took the tally to over 295,000.These fresh cases came out of the 53,591 tests conducted the previous day. The tally of active cases tally stood at 22,720 and the total number of cases has climbed to 2,95,236.

 Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan today released a protocol for the clinical management of Covid-19, that lists dietary measures, yoga and Ayurvedic herbs and formulations such as Ashwagandha and AYUSH-64 for prevention of coronavirus infection and treatment of mild and asymptomatic cases. The protocol suggests use of medicines such as Ashwagandha, Guduchi Ghana Vati or Chyawanaprasha as prophylactic care for high risk population and primary contacts of patients.
