Covid-19 cases in India cross 29-lakh mark

India has recorded 68,898 coronavirus cases, taking its total past the 2.9-million mark to 2,910,032. The country’s death toll has surged to 55,002.

Maharashtra, the worsthit state in India, recorded highest one-day count of 14,492 coronavirus cases. West Bengal also recorded its worst single-day spike of 3,245 cases to take its total to 129,119. India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 74.3 percent.

 Looking at the individual tallies of different states, Haryana saw the biggest spike of 1,203 new patients and seven deaths, taking the Covid-19 count of the state to 52,129 and the death toll to 585. As many as 620 persons have recovered which took the overall (recovery) number to 43,413 with the recovery rate of 83.28 percent. Haryana government declared all offices and shops except those selling essential items will remain closed in Haryana on every Saturday and Sunday due to COVID-19.

Maharashtra continuous to be the worst affected state recording 14,492 new coronavirus cases and 339 deaths in last twenty-four hours, taking the total number of infections in the state to 6,57,450 and the death toll to 21,698. The tally includes 4,70,873 recovered cases and 1,64,562 active cases.

Delhi reported 1,250 new Covid-19 cases taking the total number of cases in the national capital to 1,58,604. A total of 13 deaths were reported, taking the death toll to 4,270. There are 11,426 active cases in the national capital. Meanwhile, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) issued an order for re-opening of hotels in the national capital, except in containment zones. Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) issued by Centre to be followed.

 West Bengal reported 3,245 new Covid-19 cases, 3,082 recovered cases and 55 deaths in last 24 hours. Total number of cases reached 1,32,364 which included 27,804 active cases, Meanwhile, 1,01,871 patients have been discharged and 2,689 deaths have been reported so far across the state.

Tamil Nadu recorded 5,995 fresh coronavirus cases taking the tally to 3,67,430 while 101 fatalities pushed the death toll to 6,340. With 5,764 patients getting discharged from various hospitals, recoveries mounted to 3,07,677 till date in the State. The active cases stood at 53,413.

 Karnataka reported 7,571 new cases of Covid-19 and 93 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 2,64,546 and death toll to 4,522. The total number of positive cases in Bengaluru urban breached 1 lakh mark, with the city reporting 2,948 fresh cases.

Kerala reported 1,983 fresh Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours, taking the total infection count to 54,182, while 12 more deaths took the count to 203. At least 1,777 people were infected through contact and the source of infection of 109 was not yet known. Andhra Pradesh reported 9,544 new Covid-19 cases, 8,827 recoveries and 91 deaths in in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 3,34,940 including 87,803 active cases, 2,44,045 recoveries and 3,092 deaths have been reported in the state so far.

For the first time, Gujarat recorded a spike of more than 1,200 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours. With highest single-day spike of 1,204, the caseload in the state rose to 84,466. Fourteen persons with COVID-19 infection died across the state, taking the death toll to 2,869. On the other hand, 1,324 patients were discharged from hospitals.

Uttar Pradesh reported 4,991 fresh Covid-19 cases taking the total number of those affected by deadly virus to 1,77,239. With 66 fresh fatalities, the total deaths due to the virus have gone up to 2,797. There are 47,785 active cases in the state while the number of those being discharged from hospitals after recovery is 1,26,657.

Madhya Pradesh registered its highest single-day spike of 1,147 coronavirus cases, due to which the overall count in the state crossed the 50,000-mark. The case count in the state is now 50,640.
