With 1,024 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, Delhi reported the highest spike in a day, taking the total tally to 16,281. The national capital also witnessed 13 deaths; so far 316 people have died in Delhi. The day also saw 231 patients being cured. So far, 7,495 people in Delhi have recovered from Covid-19.

According to the Delhi government health bulletin, the number of active corona patients in the capital has now increased to 8,470. On the spike in corona figures, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi told The Daily Guardian, “1,024 cases and 13 deaths are indicative of missteps by the Delhi government.

From being heartless towards migrants, sanitation staff salaries to treatment of Tablighis, opening of liquor shops or non-distribution of ration and existence of tanker mafia. Last but not least, the spike also shows the mismanagement of hospitals in terms of facilities. The crisis of crisis is the Delhi government.” Congress leader Ajay Maken called it the result of “the mindless imposition and lifting of lockdown”.

He said, “Delhi has seen the highest number of Covid cases today. More alarming is the fact that single-day rise yesterday was 792, thus this jump is by 232, which is again the highest. This is due to the mindless imposition and lifting of lockdown. Further, apart from the lack of preparedness in the health sector, the government is not transparent at all.”

Former AAP minister and MLA Somnath Bharti came forward in the government’s defence and said that the imposition and lifting of lockdown in Delhi was “completely in sync with the decision of the Central government”. He reminded, “It’s not the time to do politics. The Delhi government needs to be trusted for sailing through this crisis with least collateral damages.”
