Bajrang Punia, a wrestler, missed his Wednesday court appearance due to health reasons. The judge gave him an exception just for today. He has been called before Patiala House court in relation to the libel case. Metropolitan Judge Yashdeep Chahal gave his approval to the request for an exemption just for today. The next hearing on this matter is scheduled for September 14.
According to a court ruling, the lawyer for complainant Naresh Dahiya was required to deliver a copy of the complaint to Punia. When the case was heard, Punia’s attorney was present. He stated that Punia’s fever began this morning. Punia further contended that he couldn’t sign “Vakalatnama” because he lives outside of Delhi.
The court noted that the counsel has not filed any medical document to substantiate his submissions. The court also noted that the accused has not appeared despite the issuance of a summons.
In a defamation case brought by wrestling instructor Naresh Dahiya, the Patiala House had already summoned Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia.
In a criminal defamation complaint, complainant Naresh Dahiya claimed that Bajrang Punia made false statements against him during a news conference on May 10, 2023, while there was a protest at Jantar Mantar.
The accused, Bajrang Punia, had mentioned a rape case that was still pending against the complainant (Naresh Dahiya), according to the relevant extracts, the court noted.
