Savitri Jindal, the wealthiest woman in the country hailing from Haryana, has officially parted ways with the Congress party. Taking to social media, she announced her decision to relinquish her primary membership from Congress and declared her imminent joining of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The announcement came after deliberations with party workers at the Jindal House last Wednesday.

Her son, Naveen Jindal, had recently made a similar switch to BJP merely three days ago. Notably, BJP has nominated him for the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat in Haryana.
Expressing her sentiments on social media, Savitri Jindal stated, “Hisar is my family.”

Earlier, in a conversation with journalists, she emphasized that her son Naveen’s decision to align with BJP reflected the collective stance of their family. She also disclosed that she had previously received an electoral offer from Congress, which she had declined. However, she is now poised to contribute to BJP’s vision of realizing a developed India under the leadership of the Prime Minister.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Savitri Jindal, Chairperson of the Jindal Group, currently boasts a net worth of $25 billion, marking a substantial increase in wealth over the past two years.

In 2020, Savitri Jindal was ranked 349th in the Forbes list. Remarkably, her ranking ascended to 234 in 2021 and further to 91st in 2022, underscoring the significant expansion of her business empire within a span of few years.

It’s worth noting that Savitri Jindal hails from Hisar. Her husband, Omprakash Jindal, laid the foundations of the Jindal Group, which commands a formidable presence in both domestic and international markets. Following her husband’s demise in a helicopter crash in

Haryana in 2005, Savitri Jindal assumed leadership of the Jindal Group.
Omprakash Jindal had served as a minister in the Hooda government and retained his ministerial portfolio until his unfortunate demise.

Subsequently, Savitri Jindal contested assembly elections from Hisar. Additionally, her son Naveen Jindal served as a Member of Parliament from Kurukshetra, initially securing the position in 2004 on a Congress ticket.

Continuing her family’s political legacy, Savitri Jindal herself held a ministerial position in the government of former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda in 2013. However, both she and Naveen Jindal faced electoral defeat in 2014, prompting their withdrawal from active politics.

Savitri Jindal was born on March 20, 1950, in Tinsukia, Assam. She tied the knot with Omprakash Jindal, the founder of the Jindal Group, in 1970 and is a mother to nine children. Tragically, at the age of 55, she lost her husband in a helicopter accident, leading her to assume full control of the family business.
