The tall claims of better law and order in Haryana by the state police continue to prove futile as a spurt in the crime is continuously being witnessed. In this series, what came to light is that the conviction rate in heinous crimes like rape and murder cases is minors— between 5 to 6 percent— which is a matter of serious concern. The data tabled in the ongoing assembly session depicts that as many as 8835 rape cases were reported during the last 8 years and out of these, the accused have been sentenced in just 414 cases which is very shocking as well as requiring the concerned department to come up with a foolproof plan. Thus, the conviction ratio in rape cases in the state is around 5 percent requiring the state government as well as the concerned department to represent the case strongly in court so that the culprits cannot walk free away.

Further, the statistics revealed that as many as 1484 cases of gang rape were reported during the above-mentioned period and the accused sentenced in just 82 cases showing that the scenario remains unchanged. It is a noticeable fact that the women are neither safe at home nor outside which is evident from the increasing crime rate. As many as 1546 rape cases were reported last year. Apart from this, things are worsening in Gurugram and Faridabad district falling in National Capital Region (NCR) and adjoining to National capital Delhi as out of the aforesaid, a total of 212 and 135 rape cases reported in these two districts respectively requiring the state police tighten the noose around the neck of hardcore criminal but what scenario depicts is that the police failed to do so to some extent.

Karnal, Panipat, and Yamunanagar exist among the districts with more than 100 rape cases each as 125, 110, and 106 rape cases were filed in these districts respectively last year. Besides, a total of 176 gang rape cases surfaced in the state last year raising the finger on the working of the police department, and not even a single accused has been sentenced in any case which is an alarming situation. So the present scenario clearly depicts that despite the tall claims of the police department, things remain unchanged

Mewat and Palwal districts are at the top of the list in terms of gang rape cases as 20 and 19 incidents of gang rape were reported to be followed by the Panipat, Yamunanagar, and Sirsa with 16 , 15 and 10 cases respectively. What also came to fore that Haryana State Women Commission is also continuously receiving complaints pertaining to crime against women.
