Amid the pandemic times, Virtuoso Optoelectronics founder and director Sukrit Bhararti began utilising his production processes to make masks and other healthcare products. In an exclusive interview with NewsX, Bharati shared how a citizen can differentiate between good and bad mask and make an informed purchase.

Sukrit Bharati, founder and director of Virtuoso Optoelectronics, joined NewsX for an exclusive interview. Bharati, whose organisation has recently been enrolled into Stanford’s seed programme for MSMEs, has taken a praiseworthy initiative in these testing times. He has started using his production processes to produce masks and other healthcare products. “Contributing to the fight against Covid-19 was one of the things we wanted to do. We wanted to do our bit and were good at manufacturing, so decided to get into the manufacturing of respiratory masks,” says Bharati.

He believes that masks are an extremely crucial part of the fight against the pandemic. Citing the recent WHO announcement that Covid-19 may be aerially transmitted, Bharati says, ”Importance of masks has gone up exponentially. The masks can be divided into three categories: cloth mask, medical/surgical mask and respiratory or N95 mask. It’s important to note that the cloth masks and surgical masks only limit exposure by you as they stop you from spreading the virus. But they do not protect you if others are infected.”

Explaining the proper way to wear masks, he says, “You need to use the nose clip effectively and cover your nose and mouth completely. The purpose of a mask is to make sure that all the air that is coming in is through the mask only so that it gets filtered.” Bharati warns against the washing of masks as it «breaks the fibres of the mask”.
