Congress pledges to deliver on all 5 poll promises this fiscal year: CM Siddaramaiah

On Friday, during the cabinet meeting, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said that the five guarantees promised by the Congress ahead of the Assembly polls will be implemented in the present financial year.

The 5  ‘main’ assurances, which Congress promised to fulfil after coming to power in Karnataka, were:

  1. 200 units of free power to all households (Gruha Jyoti)

  2. Rs 2,000 monthly assistance to the woman head of every family (Gruha Lakshmi)

  3. 10 kg of rice free to every member of a BPL household (Anna Bhagya)

  4. Rs 3,000 every month for unemployed graduate youth and Rs 1,500 for unemployed diploma holders (both in the age group of 18–25) for two years (Yuva Nidhi)

  5. Free travel for women in public transport buses (Uchita Prayana).

Addressing a press briefing here after the Cabinet meeting, Siddaramaiah said that the implementation of the guarantee of about 200 units of free power will begin on 1 July. “A total of 200 units of power will be free. Consumers who haven’t paid their bills until July will have to pay,” he added. The Gruha Lakshmi scheme, which promises Rs 2,000 every month to every woman ‘kartha’ of a family, will be implemented from 15 August, the CM said. The online application will be open from 15 June to 15 July. Beneficiaries will have to submit their Aadhaar card and bank account details.
“June 15–July 15 Aadhar card and application need to be filed. Then from July 15–August 15, after analysing the bank accounts,” he said.
