The Congress party on Tuesday revealed its choice for the Ferozepur parliamentary constituency, nominating former MP Sher Singh Ghubaya to represent the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
With this announcement, the Congress has finalized its candidates for all 13 parliamentary constituencies in Punjab.
Ghubaya, who previously secured victory twice as a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) nominee in 2009 and 2014, made the switch to the Congress party in 2019.
In response, other prominent political parties have also disclosed their contenders for the Ferozepur seat. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has put forward Muktsar MLA Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar, while the SAD has chosen Nardev Singh Bobby Mann, son of former MP Zora Singh Mann.
Meanwhile, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has named Surinder Kamboj, father of Jalalabad AAP MLA Jagdeep Singh Goldy Kamboj, as its candidate.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to announce its candidate for the Ferozepur constituency.
Polling for the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab is scheduled for June 1st, adding to the anticipation surrounding the electoral landscape in the state.
