Congress MP Jairam Ramesh criticized the BJP on Friday for filing an FIR against Rahul Gandhi. He accused the party of trying to distract attention from Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on B.R. Ambedkar.
Planned Distraction, Says Ramesh
Ramesh argued that the protest in Parliament was deliberately staged by the BJP. “Delhi Police will do whatever the home minister will say to them,” he said. He added, “Whatever happened in front of the Makar Dwar was completely planned. The home minister insulted BR Ambedkar, and we demanded an apology. They planned this to distract from the issue. This FIR isn’t against Rahul Gandhi; it’s against BR Ambedkar.”
CPI MP Calls Case Fake
CPI MP P. Sandosh Kumar supported Congress, calling the case filed by the BJP fake. He said, “It’s a fake case. We were protesting peacefully, but we were blocked. Many MPs, including me, were pushed by BJP MPs. I fell and had slight injuries. The BJP is now claiming Rahul Gandhi attacked a woman. This is baseless. We challenge the authorities to release the CCTV footage. Why not make it public to reveal the truth?”
Details of the Parliament Scuffle
The FIR was filed on Thursday after a scuffle in Parliament. The incident occurred when opposition members and BJP-led NDA MPs protested separately, leading to a confrontation. Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that he was pushed. Two BJP members were also injured.
Priyanka Gandhi Criticizes the FIR
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra condemned the FIR. She said it shows the government’s desperation. “The whole country is watching. They’ve filed multiple cases against Rahul Gandhi. They keep bringing in new FIRs and lying. This shows their level of desperation,” she said.
Protests and Allegations
On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi and MPs from the INDIA alliance led protests in Parliament. They demanded an apology and resignation from Home Minister Amit Shah over his comments on B.R. Ambedkar. BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi alleged he was injured when Rahul Gandhi pushed another MP. “I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi pushed a fellow MP. That MP fell on me, causing me to fall,” Sarangi said. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Hospital Update
Both MPs involved in the incident were admitted to Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. The hospital confirmed their conditions were stable.
