Raghunath Vishwanath Deshpande, a seasoned Congress MLA and former Karnataka minister, took home the Best MLA Legislator Award on Wednesday.
The honour was given to the eight-time Congress MLA from Haliyal in Uttara Kannada by Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri.
The previous state president of the Congress has held the position of minister in a number of governments. He was praised by former chief minister Siddaramaiah for constantly working to increase investment in the state and improve the lives of Karnataka’s citizens.
“Deterioration in politics is so much that the politicians are scared of introducing themselves. People don’t have a good opinion about the politicians,” the veteran leader said.
