Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday attacked the Congress at the inauguration of a Kali Puja event at Janbazar in central Kolkata. She attacked the role of the Congress in current politics. “Congress compromises, we don’t,” Mamata Banerjee said. “We will die, but we will not allow the BJP to be strong,” she said. On Monday, Mamata Banerjee virtually ruled out the possibility of any alliance with the Congress. “Congress has fought us in every seat,” she said. “How do you expect us to support Congress elsewhere? The policy is the same all the time. We also supported the Congress at the Centre, we left. Why? Because they cheated us; cheated the people too.”

Mamata Banerjee also attacked the BJP as she was shown black flags during her recent visit to Goa. “Everywhere we go, they protest,” she said. “When I went to Delhi, they sent four or five people in front of my house. I also saw that a Congress leader took a convoy of 100 cars, where they were not shown black flags. Only my poster was inked. I’m saying you can blacken me; that’s why you have a paintbrush in your hand. Ordinary people have votes in their hands in the coming days—they will blacklist you and send you away.”

Mamata Banerjee also scoffed at the Congress’ fight against the BJP across the country. “Has the Congress fought since Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come to power? Just big talk when it comes to elections, because we are running everywhere, Congress cannot be relied upon. Congress compromises, we don’t.”
