Congress on Monday cornered BJP over its alliance with the Janata Dal Secular (JDS) in Karnataka over the explicit video of former Prime Minister HD Deve Godwa’s grandson Prajwal Revanna and slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the issue.

While addressing a press conference here at the party headquarters, Congress social media and digital platforms chairman Supriya Shrinate said, “The Prime Minister shared the stage with Revanna in Karnataka and appealed for vote for him.”

Shrinate also showed picture of Revanna with Prime Minister Modi clicked on April 14 this year. She said Revanna is a candidate from Hassan and is candidate of JDS-BJP alliance.

Targeting the BJP, she said, “Revanna has fled from the country. He fled from the country after ruining the lives of hundreds of women.”

The Congress leader also said that hundreds of his alleged explicit videos have come to the fore. Slamming the BJP government at the Centre, she said, “BJP and Prime Minister Modi knew of misdeeds of Revanna. Even the BJP leaders wrote to the leadership about his misdeeds in December last and many leaders during the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Mysuru also urged him to not to field him.”

However, they (BJP) fielded Revanna as its alliance candidate from Hassan, she said. Taking a pot shot at the BJP, she said that soon after the video came to public a SIT was formed.

She also said that the slogans of ‘Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao’ were false. She also questioned the silence of the Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah, Union Minister Smriti Irani and National Commission for Women chief Rekha Sharma on the alleged explicit video of Revanna.

Earlier in the day, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also slammed the government at the Centre. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, she said, “The leader on whose shoulder the PM (Prime Minister) puts his hand and gets himself photographed. The leader for whom the PM himself goes to campaign 10 days before the election. He praises him on the stage. Today that leader from Karnataka is absconding from the country. Just hearing about his heinous crimes makes the heart tremble. He has ruined the lives of hundreds of women. Modi ji will you still remain silent?”

Even Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, who is party’s communication in-charge, in a post on X said, “It was only in December 2023 that a BJP leader had apprised the party leadership of the atrocities committed by Prajwal Revanna. Even after knowing about the atrocities committed by Prajwal Revanna, the Prime Minister personally sought votes for Prajwal and said that ‘every vote for Prajwal will strengthen Modi.’”

“This is not surprising. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Kuldeep Sengar and now Prajwal Revanna – the Prime Minister has shown his true colours time and again,” he said, attaching a video of the Prime Minister’s speech.

A case has been filed against Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna amid a row over explicit videos – allegedly showing the him sexually assaulting multiple women.

The video clips, allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna, surfaced on social media a day after he voted on April 26 in Phase 2 of the elections.

Revanna has, however, denied the allegations and filed a complaint claiming that the videos being circulated are doctored.
