The J&K governemnt has taken a decisive step by establishing a Fact Finding Committee, with the Director General of Police serving as its convenor, to probe into alleged “irregularities” in the supply and installation of the Power Fencing System across 10 Jails in the region.

The committee, as outlined in a government order issued on Wednesday, consists of key members, including the Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, General Administration Department, and FA/CAO, Home Department. The primary objective of the committee is to thoroughly investigate all aspects related to the case, focusing on the actions taken by the officers/officials of the Prisons Department during the issuance of the Supply Order. Additionally, the committee will scrutinize the procedures followed in the allotment of CMC/AMC Contract, specifically addressing deviations from the terms and conditions outlined in the tender for the project.

The order states, “The committee shall examine all aspects of the case, including actions taken by the officers/officials of Prisons Department at the time of issuing the Supply Order, and the process followed while allotting CMC/AMC Contract, without adhering to the terms and conditions of the tender for the project.”

Moreover, the Fact Finding Committee is assigned the responsibility of identifying and assigning accountability for any acts of omission and commission on the part of the officers and officials of the Prisons Organization involved in the project. The committee is expected to present its comprehensive report to the Government along with recommendations within a stipulated period of 30 days.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, ensuring that any irregularities in government projects are thoroughly investigated and addressed promptly. The Fact Finding Committee is poised to play a crucial role in bringing clarity to the situation and recommending appropriate actions to rectify any discrepancies identified during the inquiry.
