To provide an opportunity for students to understand the police system from close quarters and become active partners in governance and security, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday launched the Student Police Cadet (SPC) Scheme across the state. In the first phase, over 11,200 8th graders selected from 280 government schools participated in the function via video conferencing.
The Chief Minister said that the course curriculum, formulated by the Bureau of Police Research and Development is to be imparted over a period of two years for class 8th students from the current academic year. The same students would continue with this curriculum in the next academic year, 2024-25.
CM Mann said that the state government allocated Rs 50,000 per annum to schools in 28 districts (23 revenue and five police districts) to implement the scheme. Forty students from 10 selected schools of each district have been enrolled, taking the total tally to 11,200 students.
