Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced that the state government will be giving a pension amount every month to unmarried individuals in Haryana. A notification issued by the state government on Friday stated that the government will be disbursing Rs 2,750 to such individuals under this pension. The notification also states the conditions and stipulations that unmarried persons must meet to receive the pension amount.
The state government has clarified that strict action will be taken against bachelors or widowers if they marry or remarry without informing the authorities and continue to quietly receive the pension. Further, those in live-in relationships or in similar partnerships will not get the benefit of the scheme. The notification also states that the pension will not be given to divorcees. Additionally, if a person is already receiving a pension of some kind, they will then not be given the benefit of this particular pension scheme. According to government officials, these rules have been made to ensure complete transparency in the pension scheme.
The Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) Authority will make available the information of the eligible persons to the Social Justice Department by the 10th of every month. By the end of the month, after checking all the facts, the pension ID of those eligible will be made by the 7th of the next month. After this, the department will contact the person concerned and consent will be taken from him to take pension. The scheme has come into effect as of 1 July.
CM Khattar announced a few weeks earlier. There are currently 71,000 unmarried persons and widowers eligible in Haryana. Government expenditure for this scheme will amount to Rs 20 crore each month and an additional expenditure of Rs 240 crore will be incurred on the budget of the government every year.
