Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, inaugurated housing units in Prayagraj on Friday, which were built on land confiscated from gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, who was killed in April this year. In the Lukuarganj area, approximately 76 flats were constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The allocation of these flats was done through a lottery system on June 9.

Arvind Kumar Chauhan, vice chairman of Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA), told ANI, “The lottery for allotment was drawn in the auditorium of Allahabad Medical Association.” “Of the 6030 applicants, 1590 were found eligible to participate in the lottery after verification.”

The recipients of these flats will receive a 41-square-meter housing unit for an affordable price of 3.5 lakh. According to the officials, a flat with two rooms, a kitchen, and toilet facilities costs Rs. 6 lakh.

Prior to the handover of the flat, Adityanath interacted with the attendees and distributed chocolates to their children. According to one of the workers, extensive preparations for the chief minister’s visit to inaugurate the housing units had been underway for the previous ten days.

The interior of the flats was shown in a video shared by the news agency ANI. The name of the assigned person is visible as one enters the house. Inside, the flats have two rooms, a basic kitchen, and a bathroom. Following the inauguration, another video showed the chief minister inspecting the flats.
