In a tense incident at Mumbai airport, hundreds of passengers narrowly avoided disaster when an IndiGo aircraft landed on the same runway from which an Air India jet was taking off. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation and derostered the Air Traffic Control (ATC) official responsible for the situation.
A video circulating on social media shows the IndiGo flight 6E 6053 from Indore landing as the Air India plane begins its takeoff on the same runway. IndiGo has confirmed that their pilot followed ATC instructions during the incident.
“On June 8, 2024, IndiGo flight 6E 6053 from Indore was given landing clearance by ATC at Mumbai Airport. The Pilot in Command continued the approach and landing, adhering to ATC instructions. Passenger safety is our top priority, and we have reported the incident as per procedure,” stated IndiGo in a press release.
The DGCA’s swift response aims to ensure the safety protocols are strictly followed and to prevent such occurrences in the future.
