CJI says Supreme Court using technology to bring courtrooms closer to people

Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud highlighted the Supreme Court’s innovative use of technology, emphasizing how online streaming has bridged the gap between the courts and the people, transforming legal accessibility.

Speaking at the inaugural regional conference on legal aid access, themed ‘Access to Legal Aid: Strengthening Access to Justice in the Global South,’ CJI Chandrachud underscored the significance of nations characterized by limited economic development as part of the Global South.

CJI Chandrachud emphasized the importance of technological interventions in improving access to justice, citing India’s role in establishing the Supreme Court of Mauritius and recent collaborations with Singapore’s Supreme Court via a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

“We employ technology to bring courtrooms closer to the public,” stated CJI Chandrachud. “The Supreme Court’s online proceedings now resonate within the hearts and homes of ordinary citizens,” he affirmed, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity within court spaces.

CJI Chandrachud concluded by recognizing the judiciary’s potential to significantly enhance access to justice and praising countries like India for their innovative legal frameworks, underscoring their crucial role in advancing legal equity.
