On the occasion of India’s Independence Day, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said that the Supreme Court was preparing to extend its facility.

CJI stated on the Supreme Court grounds on Independence Day that the new structure will contain 27 more courtrooms, 4 registrar courtrooms, and enough amenities for lawyers and litigants.

He stated that the museums and annexure building will be demolished in the first phase to make way for 15 courtrooms, meeting rooms for the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA), and women’s bar rooms.

The present building will be demolished in the Second Phase to make way for 12 new courtrooms, according to the CJI.

He further informed the audience that the proposal had been presented to the Central Government and that the case was now with the Department of Justice.

Later, he referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Red Fort address, in which the PM stated that the Supreme Court has ruled that the operative section of the decisions will be translated into the litigant’s language.
