Chris Evans Photo Signing 'Israeli missile' Goes Viral: Here's What He Responds

Hollywood actor Chris Evans, widely known for his role as Captain America, has addressed a controversy surrounding an old photograph of him signing what initially appeared to be an Israeli bomb. The image, featuring Evans alongside a US Air Force officer, has sparked considerable debate online. However, Evans has now labeled the claims as “misinformation.”

In a series of now-disappeared Instagram Stories, Evans clarified the context of the photo, revealing that it was taken eight years ago during a USO tour. “There’s a lot of misinformation surrounding this picture,” Evans wrote. “Some clarification: This image was taken during a USO tour in 2016. I went with a group of actors, athletes, and musicians to show our appreciation for our service members. The object I was asked to sign was not a bomb, or a missile, or a weapon of any kind. It’s an inert object used for training or display purposes only.”

In a follow-up slide, Evans included a screenshot from an AFP report, highlighting a quote from a U.S. Air Force spokesperson: “The object Chris Evans is signing in the USO tour photo from 2016 is an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) inert training aid. The object is meant to model an artillery shell and is for display and training purposes only.”

Evans’ Instagram Stories were later shared by a Reddit user, amplifying his message and addressing the misinformation head-on.

This clarification from Evans comes shortly after a picture of former U.S. presidential hopeful Nikki Haley writing “Finish Them” on an Israeli shell surfaced online. The photo, shared by former UN Ambassador Danny Danon on X (formerly Twitter) on May 28, showed Haley and Danon during a visit, with Danon commenting, “‘Finish Them’. This is what my friend the former ambassador Nikki Haley wrote.”

By addressing the controversy, Evans aims to set the record straight and mitigate the spread of false information regarding the nature of the object he signed during the USO tour.
