The story of fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi, wanted by India for his alleged role in the PNB scam, has been one of twists and turns. Debates rage on as to how Choksi landed in Dominica, with his family alleging that he was abducted.

Choksi’s wife Priti Choksi spoke exclusively to The Daily Guardian and said that the disappearance of her husband from Antigua and then his reappearance, the claims of rumoured girlfriend Babara Jabarica all are a part of a ‘state-sponsored’ scheme.

Barbara Jabarica, whose name has surfaced in Choksi’s alleged abduction case, has slammed the charges of being involved in his kidnapping, while also clarifying that she is just a ‘friend’ of the businessman, who had introduced himself to her as Raj.

Choksi has claimed that he was abducted from Antigua and Barbuda and forcibly taken to Dominica on a yacht.

Priti said that Jabarica is hand-in-glove with the people who abducted her husband. Speaking to The Daily Guardian, she said, “How is it possible that Barbara has chosen to surface on the day that the bail application of my husband was listed, and on the day a complaint was filed with the Scotland Yard in UK and she would therefore be investigated?”

“It cannot be a coincidence because she has chosen to resurface on a day that we registered a complaint with the Antigua police? Why are all the people, including Jabarica, residents of the UK?” Priti asked.

She stated further, “How is it possible that all the CCTV cameras near Jolly Harbor all simultaneously stopped working when my husband was abducted?”

“If anything this is only further evidence of the State Sponsored Kidnapping attempt against my husband,” claimed Priti.

Recently, Jabarica has been speaking to several India-based news platforms wherein she claimed that Mehul Choksi was just her friend and that he had introduced himself as Raj. Moreover, Jabarica claims that she didn’t have any idea about the fraudulent cases Mehul was involved in. Choksi’s wife slammed Jabarica’s claims that Mehul befriended her with a false name. In this age of technology, the wife said, anyone’s identity can be confirmed on social media. Priti also questioned as to why the CCTV visuals of the abduction from Jolly Harbour are not available. “Had he been going to Dominica, why would he leave his passport, car keys behind,” Priti asked. “Why would his family and the lawyers be unaware of his antecedents?” she questioned.

Priti relentlessly contends that her husband’s claims of ‘abductions’ are not baseless. “If my husband was lying, why would he willingly leave his passport in Antigua and have hurt marks and injuries on his body?” Priti told The Daily Guardian.
