Banned Chinese manja takes away the life of a 29-year-old soldier. Naik K Koteshwara Reddy, the victim was traveling for work to the military hospital in Golconda, on a two-wheeler, when accidentally, he came across a banned nylon manja hanging from a kite that entangled with a lamppost caught around his neck that brutally slits his throat on Saturday (Jan 13).
Naik was a driver who was posted in the hospital’s motor transport wing. He was married and had a daughter of two years old. A fellow driver, Shankar Goud helped to get Naik to the hospital following the injuries. Goud stopped a rickshaw and lifted Nail on his shoulder to take him to a military Hospital since the bleeding was so bad. However, Naik lost his life undergoing the treatment.
Naik’s mortal remains were handed to his family and his last rites were held in his native Visakhapatnam. His wife Prathyusha begged people to stop selling the banned manjha and throwing light on the possible dangers it can cause to the animals.
The Chinese manjha (string tide to the kite) is quite thin and invisible and is widely used by kite flyers in the competition on Makar Sankranti. This manjha helps in easy cutting and resisting in the competition.
