Before the Lok Sabha elections, the Central government has reportedly granted Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar ‘Z’ category Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) security cover nationwide, according to sources. The decision to enhance Kumar’s security was prompted by international threats, as per the sources.

Following recent threat evaluations from the Intelligence Bureau, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) opted to increase Kumar’s security detail. CRPF commandos will soon assume responsibility for his security arrangements. This heightened security coverage will accompany Kumar during his travels throughout the country, including constant protection during his time in Delhi and at his office. A team of over thirty armed CRPF commandos will be assigned to guard him.

As the guardian of free and fair elections, Rajiv Kumar confronts various challenges and adversaries, especially with the general elections scheduled between April 19 and June 1. The decision to extend ‘Z’ category security to Kumar nationwide was made by the MHA, considering his anticipated nationwide travels during the implementation of the model code of conduct. Despite this, Kumar’s unwavering dedication to upholding the integrity of the electoral process remains steadfast. His relentless efforts to protect the democratic rights of citizens have garnered both admiration and criticism.

In the midst of the intricate responsibilities he shoulders, ensuring Kumar’s safety has become a top priority. Acknowledging the inherent risks associated with his position, the MHA took decisive action to provide heightened security measures.
