A schedule for the assembly elections in five states was released by the Election Commission on Monday. Chhattisgarh will hold two rounds of voting on November 7 and 17. Elections will be held in one phase in the final four states of Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana. The voting in all five states will be completed on December 3, according to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, who spoke at a press conference here. Chhattisgarh has experienced Naxal violence in some areas. The deadline to submit nominations for Chhattisgarh’s first round of voting is October 20. By October 23, candidates may withdraw their nominations.

The deadline for submitting nominations for the state’s second round of assembly elections is October 30, and candidates have until November 2 to withdraw their names from consideration. With the release of the election dates, the Model Code of Conduct became operative. The two Election Commissioners attended the press conference with Rajiv Kumar. The five state elections are significant because they take place months before the Lok Sabha elections in April or May of next year. In Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, Congress and BJP are the dominant forces. A triangular election between the governing Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Congress, and BJP is anticipated in Telangana.
