After the deaths of two security personnel in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast triggered by Naxals in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his condolences and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eradicating Maoism.

“The Naxalites are perturbed by the campaign being run by our government to eliminate Maoism and are carrying out cowardly acts. The martyrdom of the soldiers will not go in vain. Our fight will continue till Maoism is eliminated,” Sai stated on X.

He also wished for peace for the souls of the fallen soldiers and a swift recovery for the four soldiers injured in the attack.

“Sad news has been received about the martyrdom of 2 STF jawans and injury of 4 jawans in an IED blast carried out by Maoists in Tarrem area of Bijapur district. I pray to God for the peace of the souls of the martyred soldiers and the speedy recovery of the injured soldiers,” Sai added.

On Thursday, two security personnel lost their lives and four others were injured in an IED blast triggered by Naxals in Bijapur district, according to Bastar Police.

“On receiving intelligence about the presence of Naxal of Darbha Division, West Bastar Division and Military Company No. 2 in the border area between Bijapur, Dantewada and Sukma, teams of STF, DRG, CoBRA, and CRPF from the said districts went on a joint operation on July 16, 2024,” the police stated.

The fallen jawans were identified as Constable Bharat Sahu from Raipur and Constable Satyer Singh Kange from Narayanpur. The security personnel, part of an anti-Naxal operation, were returning from the search operation when the incident occurred.

“On July 17, 2024, two STF jawans were killed and four jawans were injured due to an IED blast by a Naxal in the Tarrem area of Bijapur district,” the police confirmed.

Additional security forces have been dispatched to the area, and necessary arrangements have been made for the proper treatment of the injured STF jawans.

On Wednesday, a major anti-Naxal operation was conducted by security forces at Wandoli Village on the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border, resulting in the deaths of 12 Naxals and the recovery of a substantial cache of arms.

The operation, initiated around 10 am, involved seven C60 parties led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Operations). The assault was based on credible intelligence about the presence of 12-15 Naxals camping in the area.

During the search, security forces recovered 12 bodies of Naxals, including DVCM Laxman Atram, also known as Vishal Atram, the in-charge of the Tipagad Dalam. The operation also yielded a significant haul of weapons, including seven automatic firearms: three AK-47 rifles, two INSAS rifles, one carbine, and one self-loading rifle (SLR).

One police sub-inspector (PSI) of the C60 unit and one jawan sustained bullet injuries during the encounter. Both were evacuated to Nagpur, where they are reported to be out of danger.
