Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo Chandrababu Naidu is busy strengthening the party organisation keeping in view the electoral challenges in future.

Naidu’s party had performed miserably in parliamentary and assembly elections last year. With this in view, the party on Thursday named new leaders for its women’s wing, Telugu Mahila.

Dalit leader and former MLA, Vangalapudi Anitha has already been appointed the state president of Telugu Mahila. Now, the party has also selected the Telugu Mahila presidents and general secretaries for each of the 25 parliamentary constituencies from the backward classes. These appointments have come close on heels of Chandrababu Naidu announcing presidents for 25 new parliamentary units, and 13 parliament observers for the party on Sunday.

Meanwhile, condemning the ruling YSRCP’s ‘atrocities’, Telugu Mahila State President Vangalapudi Anitha called for united efforts by all sections of women in the State to fight back and give a fitting lesson to the Jaganmohan Reddy Government. Anitha appealed to the TDP women’s wing leaders and members to make all out efforts to oppose and agitate against the atrocities and targeted attacks being allegedly committed by the ruling party leaders against the Opposition leaders, social media activists, Dalits, temples and Constitutional institutions.

Telugu Mahila President announced the new officebearers for the newly constituted committees for all the 25 parliamentary constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. This was in line with the long tradition of the Telugu Desam Party to give greater importance to women in leadership positions.

Anitha recalled how TDP founder NT Rama Rao gave top priority to women empowerment by way of giving reservations in local bodies, equal rights to property and in creation of job opportunities. A noble tradition was established for protecting and preserving all the rights of women.

Accusing the YCP of persecuting all sections of people, Anitha said that women were no exception in this regard and many of them fell victims to atrocities with no stringent action being taken. She said that Telugu Mahila’s new committees would take an active part in the agitations against the ruling party’s alleged excesses.
