The Central Government has notified for the appointment of Justice N. Kotiswar Singh as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
The said notification reads:
In exercise of the powers being conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the president is pleased for appointing Shri Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh, the Judge of the Gauhati High Court to be Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, with the effect from the date he assumes the charge of his office.
However, since January 12, 2023, Justice Kotiswar Singh is serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court after the then Chief Justice Rashmin Manharbhai Chhaya has demitted the office on 11th January.
In 2208, Justice Kotiswar Singh was designated as the Senior Advocate by the Gauhati High Court. Justice Kotiswar Singh also served from the November 2007 as the Advocate General of the State of Manipur till the elevation of Justice Kotiswar Singh to the Bench in October 2011. He was also being appointed as the Judge of the Gauhati High Court in November 2012. Therefore, Justice Kotiswar Singh also served as the Acting Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court w.e.f. September 21, 2020 to September 01, .2021 and from September 05, 2022 to June 22, 2022.
