The Central Home Ministry of the Indian Government has issued a written statement. The ministry’s released letter explicitly states that the amended law regarding Hit and Run cases has not been implemented yet. The concerned department of the Indian government will hold discussions with representatives of the All India Motor Transport Congress before enforcing this law, and only after reaching a consensus in these discussions, the law will be implemented.
It’s noteworthy that the Indian government, under the Indian Penal Code, had provisioned a 10-year sentence for Hit and Run cases. Subsequently, truck drivers had announced a strike from January 1st to January 3rd at a national level in opposition to this law. After discussions with union leaders, the government had halted the enforcement of this law.
