The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against Ramesh Chandra Tripathi, the Superintendent of Customs posted at the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Whitefield, Bengaluru, over allegations of intentional illicit enrichment during his tenure, according to officials on Saturday.
Acting on reliable information that customs officials at ICD Whitefield were accepting illegal gratification, the CBI, in coordination with officers of the Directorate General of Vigilance, Customs, and Central Tax, conducted a joint operation on September 20 and 21, 2024. As a result, the agency recovered over Rs 25 lakh from the possession of the accused officer.
Following the operation, the CBI conducted searches at Tripathi’s residential premises in Bengaluru. These searches led to the recovery of incriminating documents, indicating potential involvement in corrupt activities.
The investigation is still ongoing, and further details are awaited as the CBI continues its probe into the matter.
