CBI arrests general manager of Eastern Coalfield Limited Dhanbad for taking bribe

New Delhi [India], February 22 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Abhijit Das, general manager (GM) of Mugma Area, Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL), Dhanbad for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 19,500 from a person, the agency said on Monday.
The CBI has arrested a GM, Mugma Area, Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL), Dhanbad for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 19,500 from the complainant. A case was registered against the GM on a complaint alleging that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant for signing the TCRs (Tender Committee Recommendation) of 4 tenders floated by ECL, Mugma area for supply of electrical items, as per a press statement from the CBI.
Later on, the accused allegedly reduced his demand for bribe to Rs 19,500. CBI laid a trap and caught the accused while accepting the bribe from the complainant. Searches were conducted at the residential and official premises of the accused at Kolkata, Mugma and Dhanbad which led to recovery of incriminating documents.
The arrested accused was produced yesterday before the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Dhanbad and was remanded to judicial custody. (ANI)

Pride of Sanatan India, glow of modern India to merge in celebration of nation’s 75 years of independence: PM Modi

New Delhi [India], March 8 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the celebration of the 75th year of independence of the country will reflect the “pride of Sanatan India and the glow of modern India”.
Speaking at the committee meeting to mark 75 years of independence, the Prime Minister said, “The 75th Independence Day will be the celebration of the spirit of freedom struggle and the reflection of the feeling of sacrifice. There should be a tribute to the martyrs of the country and a resolve to build an India of their dreams. It will have a glimpse of the pride of Sanatan India and the glow of modern India as well.”
Emphasising the need for people’s participation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “We have to celebrate this festival of 75 years of independence by taking 130 crore countrymen together. Public participation is the core spirit of this event. The country cannot progress by denying anyone’s contribution. The country goes forward by accepting and respecting everyone’s contributions and we want to follow this mantra.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi identified five agendas for the celebration.
“Freedom Struggle, Ideas at 75, Achievements at 75, Actions at 75 and Resolve at 75 — we have to move forward with these five aspects. All these should include the ideas and feelings of 130 crore people of the country,” said Prime Minister Modi.
He further said, “Today, India is doing things that could not be imagined until a few years ago. In this journey of 75 years, the country has reached here gradually. There are contributions of so many people to the country in this journey.”
“There is hardly any place or corner in the country that does not have any son or daughter who sacrificed their lives for the nation. When these sacrifices and their stories will come to light, these will be a source of great inspiration,” added PM Modi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led panel held the first meeting on the commemoration of 75 years of India’s Independence titled ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’.
India is going to celebrate its 75th Independence Day this year.
On January 31, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2021’s first Mann ki Baat had appealed to the countrymen to write about freedom fighters and stories of their struggle to mark the country’s 75th Independence Day this year. (ANI)

Tablets distributed to meritorious students in j-K’s Kathua

Kathua (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], March 8 (ANI): Tablets were distributed among the meritorious students — who have excelled in board examinations — in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Monday.
Ten meritorious students from Billawer, Basholi, and Kathua were given the free cost digital learning tab for support in their higher studies. The newly renovated resources center for online classes is set up for future online classes in government schools.
Director of School Education Jammu Anuradha Gupta said that the government is working on the holistic development of students, art integrated learning, and flexibility in learning choice for skill development.
“The tabs have been given with an objective to motivate them as their merit has been recognised. The digital interventions are very important, this gives a world of information,” said Gupta.
The Director of School Education also lauded the effort put in by the team to give a fillip to the hidden talent of staff and students and hailed it as a unique idea of nurturing not only the hidden tendencies of students but teachers also which otherwise remain unexplored. (ANI)

Andhra CM flags off 900 Disha Vehicles on Women’s Day

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], March 8 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday virtually provided 900 two-wheelers (Disha Vehicles) to the state’s women police on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The CM also launched 18 Crime Scene Management Vehicles.
Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharita also participated in the program at the CM camp office.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, the Home Minister said, “Special help desks for women have been arranged at all police stations in the state. They have come into force from today itself. I also thank our Chief Minister for increasing the number of casual leaves for women employees to 20 days per year.”
Andhra Pradesh Director-General of Police, Gautam Sawang, said: “The rate of crimes against women has decreased in the state by more than seven per cent in the past year.”
He also added that after implementing Disha act in the state, which is still to be ratified by the central government, investigation, trial and, conviction in crime cases against women have speeded up, leading to better results.
International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide every year on March 8 to recognise the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the globe.
This year, the theme for International Women’s Day 2021 is ‘Choose to Challenge’. (ANI)

Cong, Sena, IUML give adjournment motion notices in LS over fuel price hike

New Delhi [India], March 8 (ANI): The Congress, Shiv Sena and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) on Monday gave adjournment motion notices in Lok Sabha over the continuous rise in petrol, diesel and LPG prices in the country.
Meanwhile, price of petrol in Delhi stands at Rs 91.17 per litre while that of diesel stands at Rs 81. 47, according to the Indian Oil Corporation.
The second part of the budget session of parliament began on March 8 amid the uproar on fuel price hike in the Rajya Sabha. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha will also function as per usual timings of the House existing before the COVID-19 situation from tomorrow.

Many leaders of five poll-bound states and political parties also demanded the curtailment of the budget session due to the upcoming assembly elections.
Both Houses of the Parliament will commence their sitting from 11 am on Tuesday.
The decision to revise the timing of both Houses was announced on Monday. Both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha were operating under curtailed hours of timing and social distancing norms amid COVID-19 induced norms.

Member of Parliament, Vandana Chavan, in the Rajya Sabha Chair, informed members today that the sitting of the Upper House to commence from 11 am to 6 pm from tomorrow.
“On the request from many members from various parties, the Chairman has decided that from Tuesday, the sitting of Rajya Sabha will commence from 11 am will 6 pm as usual timings of the House. Members will sit in Rajya Sabha and gallery,” she said.

Earlier, the Rajya Sabha was scheduled to function from 9 am to 2 pm while Lok Sabha was scheduled to function between 4 pm to 10 pm.
The Budget Session of Parliament, which commenced with the address of President Ram Nath Kovind on January 29, concluded on February 29. The Union budget was tabled in the Parliament by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1. (ANI)

Mansukh Hiren’s death case is being probed, guilty won’t be spared: Anil Deshmukh

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 8 (ANI): Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Monday said that the necessary investigation is being done in the death of Mansukh Hiren and the planting of the explosives-laden car near Mukesh Ambani’s residence.
“The necessary investigation is being done in the death of Mansukh Hiren’s death and the planting of the explosives-laden car near Mukesh Ambani’s residence. Whosoever is found to be guilty will not be spared,” said Anil Deshmukh in Assembly.
Meanwhile, the investigation of the Mansukh Hiren death case has been transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
“Investigation of Mansukh Hiren death case will remain with the ATS and the case related to the recovery of explosives in a car near Mukesh Ambani’s house will be probed by NIA, Maharashtra ATS clarified.
Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) registered an FIR for alleged criminal conspiracy, murder and attempts to destroy evidence in Mansukh Hiren death case.
“National Investigation Agency (NIA) to investigate the case relating to the recovery of explosives from a car parked near Mukesh Ambani’s house in Mumbai. NIA is in the process of re-registering the case, it said.
However, slamming the Opposition for demanding a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the death of Mansukh Hiren, the owner of the explosives-laden vehicle found outside Reliance group chairman Mukesh Ambani’s residence, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Saturday said that no one should try to capitalize on Hiren’s death.
“If there are any issues raised by the Opposition in the Hiren death case, it should be investigated. If the Opposition provides information in the case, it should be investigated. But I do not think it is right to put the government in the cage of the accused before the investigation is completed. But no one should try to capitalize on his death,” Raut said while interacting with reporters. (ANI)
