After the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee ordered the state government to release 5,000 cusecs of water to bordering Tamil Nadu over the next 15 days, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called a meeting of his cabinet on Wednesday to discuss the next step. DK Shivakumar, the deputy chief minister who also oversees irrigation, was present at the meeting along with other cabinet members. The event got underway at noon.

CM Siddaramaiah presided over an emergency cabinet meeting on Tuesday to discuss the Cauvery water sharing issue. In the coming days, Deputy CM Shivakumar will discuss the Cauvery dispute with Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh. In contrast to the DMK government’s demand for 12,500 cusecs of water in the neighboring state, the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) earlier on Tuesday recommended that the Karnataka government release 5,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for 15 days beginning on Wednesday.
