The Union Cabinet approved the establishment of 157 new government medical nursing colleges at a cost of Rs 1570 crore in co-location with existing medical colleges on Wednesday.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told the media after a meeting of the Union Cabinet that nursing colleges would be established within the next 24 months. “Today, a decision has been taken to open 157 new government medical nursing colleges in the country. Rs 1,570 crore has been approved for this and it will be completed in the next 24 months,” he said.
Every year, approximately 15,700 nursing graduates will be added as a result of the decision.
It also aims to provide nursing education that is of high quality, affordable, and equitable. Co-location will make the best use of existing infrastructure.
The Minister also stated that the cabinet has approved medical device policy.
