Cabinet Approves Digital Agriculture Mission For Rs 2,817 cr

The Cabinet approved a Rs 2,817 crore Digital Agriculture Mission to modernize farming using technology, improving efficiency and providing farmers with real-time information.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday approved a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, ensuring food security, and improving farmers’ incomes.

Digital Agriculture Mission

The most significant announcement was the approval of the Digital Agriculture Mission, with an investment of Rs 2,817 crore. This mission aims to leverage digital technologies to modernize agricultural practices, improve efficiency, and provide farmers with access to real-time information and resources. It is being developed on the lines of the successful Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for agriculture.

Food and Nutritional Security

Another key decision was to allocate Rs 3,979 crore for a program focused on food and nutritional security. This program will support climate-resilient crop sciences and ensure adequate food supply and nutritional well-being.

Sustainable Development for Horticulture

The Cabinet also approved a scheme worth Rs 860 crore to promote sustainable development in the horticulture sector. This initiative will support the growth of horticultural crops and improve farmers’ livelihoods.

Strengthening Krish Vigyan Kendra and Natural Resource Management

To enhance agricultural education and research, the government allocated Rs 1,202 crore for strengthening Krish Vigyan Kendra (KVKs) and Rs 1,115 crore for natural resource management. These initiatives will help farmers adopt improved agricultural practices and conserve natural resources.

Sustainable Livestock Health and Production

Finally, the Cabinet cleared a scheme worth Rs 1,702 crore to promote sustainable livestock health and production. This will contribute to the growth of the livestock sector and provide farmers with additional income sources.

These major initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to transforming the agricultural sector and improving the lives of farmers in India.
