A heart-wrenching incident unfolded on Tuesday along the Jalandhar-Pathankot Highway, where a collision between a Punjab Police bus and a stationary truck led to the untimely demise of three police personnel. The solemn last rites of the fallen heroes were conducted with state honors in the evening. Meanwhile, Gurpreet Singh’s wife, Kamaljeet Kaur, from Gurdaspur, grapples with profound grief.
Gurpreet had promised to return promptly to celebrate their son’s first birthday. While seeking solace, Kamaljeet, with tearful eyes, clutched a photograph of her departed husband close to her chest. She shared that just the day before, they had celebrated their son Tejveer’s birthday. Gurpreet, before departing for duty, had reassured her of an early return to partake in their son’s birthday cake-cutting. Tragically, he couldn’t fulfill that promise, and the news of his demise reached them.
Senior Constable Gurpreet Singh joined the Punjab Police after the martyrdom of his father, Hardeep Singh. Serving in the force for the past 12 years and stationed on police lines, Gurpreet leaves behind a one-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter. The son, for whom Gurpreet had planned to cut a birthday cake, bid farewell to his father during the last rites.
Constable Shalu Rana (26) earned her place in the police force after three years of rigorous preparation. Shalu’s father works as a caretaker at the PWD rest house in Ganesh. Opting for the job to support her father financially, Shalu embarked on exam preparations nearly three years ago and secured her position in the police force just a year ago. Tragically, she lost her life en route to Gurdaspur when the accident occurred, as she was on board the bus in the morning.
