An inspector from the Subsidiary Training Centre of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Kharkan has been charged with raping a seven-year-old girl, police reported on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 9 pm on June 26 when Inspector Ghulam Mutanja, stationed at the admin block of the training centre, allegedly assaulted the minor.
The girl’s mother discovered the crime when she went to search for her daughter, who had not returned home late in the evening.
Following the sound of the child’s cries, she found the inspector in the act near a spot with parked vehicles. Upon being seen, Mutanja fled the scene.
According to the police, the victim recounted that the officer approached her while she was playing and, under pretenses, led her to the secluded area.
Hoshiarpur Deputy Superintendent of Police (City) Amarnath stated that an investigation is ongoing and the accused will be arrested soon.
