The Border Security Force (BSF) has successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the international border in the RS Pura sector of Jammu, recovering a significant cache of weapons in the process.
In a press release, the BSF reported that the incident occurred during the night of September 21-22, 2024, when alert troops noticed suspicious movement near the BSF fence. An intruder was observed approaching the border, prompting the vigilant forces to act swiftly and prevent the infiltration.
The recovered weapons include an AK-47 rifle, two pistols, and various rounds of ammunition, specifically 4 mm and 9 mm magazines.
This latest incident follows another infiltration attempt that the BSF successfully foiled on September 16 in the Amritsar district of Punjab, where security forces engaged a Pakistani intruder. According to BSF officials, the intruder crossed the international boundary around 9:13 PM and advanced towards the border near Ratankhurd village. Despite warnings, he continued his approach, leading the forces to open fire, resulting in his death. During that encounter, the BSF also recovered Rs 270 in Pakistani currency, including a half-torn 10-rupee note.
In a related incident, the Indian Army captured a 35-year-old Pakistani intruder from the Line of Control in the Mendhar sector of Poonch district on Sunday. Identified as Hassam Shahzad, a resident of Tarinote village in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, he was intercepted by troops in the Krishna Ghati sector when he attempted to sneak into Indian territory in the early hours.
Shahzad was found hiding in a burrow close to a river near the Bravo check area, approximately 100 meters inside Indian territory. Security officials reported that Rs 1,800 in Pakistani currency, an identity card, and two mobile SIM cards were recovered from him.
During preliminary questioning, Shahzad claimed he had inadvertently crossed the Line of Control.
The BSF and Indian Army remain vigilant in safeguarding the borders and have reiterated their commitment to thwart any infiltration attempts.
