In Punjab, the Border Security Force (BSF) accomplished significant achievements in 2023, confiscating 107 drones and apprehending two smugglers, including 23 Pakistani nationals. During the year, the BSF held 95 meetings with various agencies nationwide, with Punjab Police officials from Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Chandigarh participating in five of these sessions.

Moreover, during the previous year’s floods in the Ravi and Beas rivers, the BSF played a pivotal role in evacuating around ten thousand rural residents from bordering villages in Punjab, demonstrating their commitment to social responsibility.

Deployed along the 553-kilometer border with Pakistan, the BSF made substantial contributions to Punjab’s security by intercepting 107 drones throughout the year. Security forces seized 442 kilograms and 395 grams of heroin along the borders of Punjab’s bordering districts within a span of 365 days. Additionally, they confiscated 23 different types of weapons and 505 cartridges.

During this period, the BSF neutralized three infiltrators from Pakistan, apprehended two smugglers, and detained 23 Pakistani nationals. This information was released from the office of IG Dr. Atul Fulzele of the Punjab Frontier BSF headquarters on the last day of the year.

IG Fulzele further reported that the BSF captured 14 Bangladeshi nationals and 95 suspicious individuals, including 35 smugglers, along the border. On humanitarian grounds, 12 Pakistani nationals inadvertently entering Indian territory were handed over to the Pakistan Rangers.

In response to the 2022 floods in the Ravi and Beas rivers, the BSF showcased its social responsibility by safely evacuating approximately ten thousand rural residents from Punjab’s bordering villages. Under the Civic Action Program, the BSF organized free medical camps and skill development training camps in the state’s border villages, providing training opportunities for youth interested in joining CRPF and the Army. The BSF also hosted sports tournaments and conducted cultural activities to raise awareness among border youth.

Furthermore, DIG Sanjay Gaur highlighted the regular meetings held with landowners and farmers to address their issues. Notably, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari (Road Transport) unfurled the tallest flag (418 feet) at the ICP Attari. Efforts were made to bolster ground-level infrastructure and enhance facilities for soldiers to fortify defense capabilities.
