British Deputy High Commissioner Caroline Rowett met with Rajiv Verma, Advisor to the Chandigarh Administrator, at the Secretariat. The meeting focused on discussions related to climate change and the environment, with specific emphasis on low-emission zones (LEZs), green energy, transportation, and sustainable mobility. Some knowledge-sharing agreements are already in the pipeline.
In October 2023, the administration, in collaboration with the British High Commission, hosted a workshop focused on creating low-emission zones within the city. LEZs are designated areas where the entry of polluting vehicles is restricted to improve air quality, serving as a key strategy for environmental enhancement.
Through this knowledge exchange channel, city officials will receive essential guidance and policy-related recommendations to encourage the successful implementation of low-emission areas and sustainable mobility. This initiative aligns with India’s ambitious net-zero targets and aims to significantly reduce pollution from tailpipe emissions.
