Pema Khandu has been elected as the leader of Legislature Party. He is set to become Arunachal Pradesh’s CM. The Oath-taking ceremony is likely to take place on Juen13 with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in attendance.

BJP leaders, including JP Nadda, Amit Shah, and BL Santosh, convened in Itanagar to finalize the party’s choice for Chief Minister. BJP state president Biyuram Wahge stated that the meeting was held to determine the CM candidate for the northeastern state.

Who is Pema Khandu?

Pema Khandu has served as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh since 2016, initially assuming office after the resignation of Nabam Tuki. Khandu’s initial tenure as CM was under the Indian National Congress.

In 2019, Khandu switched alliances and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has been in power since then. In the 2024 assembly elections, the BJP once again emerged victorious in Arunachal Pradesh, securing 46 seats in the Arunachal Vidhan Sabha. The National Peoples Party, part of the NDA alliance in the state, won five seats. Additionally, the BJP retained the two Lok Sabha seats from the state.
