Zee Entertainment Seeks Court Intervention for Release of Controversial Film 'Emergency' and Censor Certificate

In a significant development, the Bombay High Court today refused to intervene in the ongoing controversy surrounding Kangana Ranaut’s movie ‘Emergency.’ The court declined to direct the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to issue a censor certificate, citing a conflicting order from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The film, co-produced by Ms. Ranaut’s Manikarnika Films and Zee Studios, has been embroiled in a massive row following opposition from Sikh organizations. With its release originally scheduled for September 6, Zee Entertainment Enterprises had sought urgent relief from the Bombay High Court to secure the necessary certification for the movie’s release. However, the court’s decision today leaves the film’s future uncertain.
