When Salman Khan Became First Indian Bone Marrow Donor, Rescues Young Girl

Did you know Salman Khan was the first bone marrow donor in India? He helped a child in urgent need of a bone marrow transplant. Salman, one of India’s highest-paid actors, is frequently in the news for his personal life.

Earlier this year, he made headlines after a shooting incident outside his Mumbai home. However, back in 2010, Salman garnered attention for a more compassionate reason: he donated his bone marrow to save a little girl’s life just days after pledging to Marrow Donor Registry India (MDRI). Dr. Sunil Parekh, a board member of MDRI at the time, confirmed this in a 2010 Zee News report.

Four years before his donation, Salman read about Pooja, a young girl in need of a bone marrow transplant. He encouraged his entire football team to come forward and donate, but in the end, only Salman and his brother, Arbaaz Khan, followed through, making them the first donors. Addressing the challenges of bone marrow donation in India, Salman pointed out the need for more donors and a change in attitude, emphasizing that the process is simple and can save lives.

In a 2022 interview with Bollywood Hungama, actor Suniel Shetty praised Salman’s character, highlighting his bone marrow donation. Shetty noted that Salman’s willingness to help others shows his good nature and why he is so blessed. Recently, Salman was in the news for stating to Mumbai Police that he believed the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was responsible for the April shooting at his Galaxy Apartments residence, intending to harm him and his family.
