The eagerly awaited teaser trailer of the Akshay Kumar and R. Madhavan-starrer Kesari: Chapter 2, the sequel of Kesari and Bell Bottom fame, was unleashed on Thursday, giving us a spellbinding glimpse into the historical courtroom drama. The movie revolves around the lawyer-client battle as the legal face-off over the Jallianwala Bagh massacre unfolds in it.
Akshay Kumar and R Madhavan Clash Courts
The trailer of Kesari begins with strong images of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre that took place on April 13, 1919, laying the groundwork for a legal battle. Akshay Kumar, who plays Sir CS Nair, plays the character of a fiery lawyer who is cross-examining General Dyer in court. The opposing counsel who appears shortly afterwards is played by R Madhavan and is seen defending the British Crown.
Ananya Panday, in a supporting role, portrays an early woman law student, representative of women in the legal profession during that time.
Kesari-2: Inspired by a Landmark Case
The movie is inspired by the book The Case That Shook The Empire, written by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. The movie is based on the life of C Sankaran Nair, a barrister who boldly battled against the British Raj to reveal the truth about the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The story portrays his unshakeable quest for justice, thus making it a great historical story of courage and defiance.
Scheduled initially to hit screens on 14th March 2025, the film has now been pushed to 18th April 2025. Jointly produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films, the film is set to be a powerful retelling of one of India’s most pivotal courtroom battles. Furthermore, it aims to bring to life the intense legal struggle that shaped history, making it a must-watch for audiences.
