The Islamic militant organization ‘Ansar Al Islam’ has sent a letter threatening to blast bomb in the Dhaka book fair and police headquarters like Pakistan. This handwritten letter was sent three days ago to the Director General of Bangla Academy Poet Nurul Huda. The letter was signed by militant leader Maulana Saful Islam. After receiving the letter, Jahangir Alam, security officer of Bangla Academy, made a GD at Shahbag police station in the capital. Police say that such letters have been sent to attract attention. However, they are seriously investigating. On the other hand, Roads and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and Forest and Environment Minister Shahabuddin did not participate in the opening ceremony of two books at the Bangla Academy on 24 January yesterday.
Asaduzzaman, head of DMP’s Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTTC) unit, told The Daily Guardian that the letter was given to attract attention. In the latter they said prostitution is taking place in two residential hotels in Jatrabari area – if it is not stopped, the book fair and the police headquarters will be attacked.
On 24 January, Awami League General Secretary and Roads and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was scheduled to attend the unveiling ceremony of a book at the book fair today, but he did not go. However, he did not go for the bomb attack threat, which is not true, said Walid Faiz, an official of the Ministry of Bridges. On the other hand, the information officer of Forest and Environment Ministers pro Dipankar said that the minister canceled the program of the book fair because he had other programs.
